Description:
Abstract:
30-centimeter black and white (greyscale) orthoimagery tiles (uncompressed GeoTIFF and compressed JPEG2000) acquired spring 2022. Product: 30-centimeter raw uncompressed imagery (uncompressed TIFF), black and white orthoimagery tiles (uncompressed GeoTIFF and compressed JPEG2000), and color orthoimagery tiles (uncompressed GeoTIFF and compressed JPEG2000). Geographic Extent: The 2022 acquisition extent included all of Addison, Bennington, Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Rutland, Windham and Windsor counties and portions of Orange, Orleans, Washington and Caledonia counties. Dataset Description: This metadata describes the 30cm pixel resolution digital orthoimagery produced for the State of Vermont by the Sanborn Map Company. The orthoimagery provided is 4-band (R, G, B, NIR), 8-bit per pixel and delivered in section tiles in uncompressed GeoTIFF and JP2000 (18:1 compression for color, 10:1 for greyscale) compressed formats. The data was collected on April 11th - May 9th, 2022 at an altitude of 5770.5 meters (AGL) using an UltraCam Eagle camera sensor. The Vermont 2022 Orthoimagery project called for the planning, acquisition, processing and derivative products of imagery data to be collected at an ground sample distance of 30 centimeters. Project specifications are based on the ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data (2014). The data were developed based on a horizontal projection/datum of NAD83 (2011), State Plane Coordinate System Vermont (FIPS 4400), meters. Raw imagery data were produced in 16-bit 4-band (RGB-IR) uncompressed format, then processed to create 32-bit 4-band (8-bit per band RGB-IR) orthorectified tiles. Compressed orthoimagery was produced in JPEG2000 format (18:1 compression for color, 10:1 for greyscale). Additional sets of uncompressed GeoTIFF and compressed JPEG2000 data were produced in black and white (greyscale). A total of 6399 tiles were produced with a tile size of 1,800-meters x 1,800 meters. Ground Conditions: Imagery was collected in the spring of 2022 at a sun angle greater than 30 degrees.
Purpose:
These data were collected as part of a 5-year project issued by the State of Vermont to collect imagery covering various parts of the state over a period of five consecutive leaf-off Spring seasons. These data depict geographic features on the surface of the earth.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Radiometry is verified by visual inspection of the digital orthophoto. Slight systematic radiometric differences may exist between adjacent orthoimage files; these are due primarily to differences in source image capture dates and sun angles along flight lines. These differences can be observed in an image's general lightness or darkness when it is compared to adjacent orthoimage file coverages. Tonal balancing may be performed over a group of images during the mosaicking process which may serve to lighten or darken adjacent images for better color tone matching.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Since the ortho images are raster products, the logical consistency is based on how well the images fit between image tiles and between individual photo frames use to produce the ortho mosaics.
Completeness_Report:
The 6399 ortho image tiles are checked for missing pixels, gaps, overlaps and other anomalies generally associated with digital orthophoto products. Any discrepencies in the ortho tiles are resolved through the use of proprietary and industry editing tools. Once the images are copied to the deliverable media they are further checked for naming, image completeness, and ability to be loaded in ArcMap.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
The project specifications require that horizontal accuracy be computed for orthoimagery files. The required accuracy meets or exceeds the ASPRS Class I Accuracy standards for 30-cm maps, derived according to the latest ASPRS standards. The horizontal accuracy was tested with 17 check points. These check points were not used in the calibration or post-processing of the imagery data. The check points were distributed throughout the project area and were surveyed using GPS techniques. The x and y positions of where the checkpoints fell on the orthoimagery were collected. These values were then compared to the surveyed control point x and y values. Accuracy has been tested to meet 0.300 meter or better RMSEx/RMSEy and 0.33 meter or better RMSEr using ASPRS Class I Accuracy Standards.
Quantitative_Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Assessment:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Value: 0.293
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Explanation:
Tested 0.293 meters RMSEx as defined by the ASPRS Class 1 Accuracy Standards for 30-cm maps. The RMSEx of the imagery was calculated using 17 independent check points.

Process_Description:
Image acquisition by Sanborn Map Company, was collected between April 11th - May 9th, 2022 using an UltraCam Eagle Camera. Imagery and GPS/IMU data is downloaded from disc on the plane to disc on the ground. GPS/IMU mission data is processed together with simultaneously collected ground-based GPS base station data in forward and reverse directions. This precisely determines the aerial camera's position and orientation in the terrain (project) coordinate system and allows for correct orientation of the imagery.

Process_Description:
Using the processed GPS/IMU data and correctly oriented imagery, a bundle adjustment is computed (AT).

Process_Description:
Orthoimagery is created using the AT solution and Lidar derived DTM. The orthoimagery is then color balanced to the acceptable parameters established by the customer. Orthoimagery then undergoes manual quality control to check for issues as outlined in the Digital Orthoimagery Acceptance Criteria document. Issues such as warps, smears, misalignments, etc. are corrected using proprietary tools and Adobe PhotoShop. Upon completion of the QC process, the orthoimagery is provided to the client for review in uncompressed TIFF/TFW format.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
Four band orthoimagery is organized in four color bands or channels which represent the red, green, blue (RGB) and infrared (IR) portions of the spectrum. Each image pixel is assigned a quadruplet of numeric values, one for each color band. Numeric values range from 0 to 255. There are no void areas in this dataset.
