Description:
Abstract:
The small stream hydro enforced DEMs for the Lake Champlain Basin (2013-2017) were generated from the most recent LiDAR-derived QL2 DEMs available on Vermont Open Geodata Portal. While many of the river crossings and raised structures (e.g.,bridges, roads overlaying culverts) along the main stem rivers were removed in the original hydro enforced DEM (for all years but 2017), most crossings along tributaries and smaller streams persisted. In this dataset the DEMs were manually edited to hydrologically enforce the full stream network for rivers that drain more than 2 square-miles within the Lake Champlain Basin in Vermont. This dataset enables hydrologic models to simulate flow under bridges or through culverts without the creation of artificially pooled depressions that occur behind non hydro enforced river crossings.
Funding mostly from the Lake Champlain Basin Program and the Vermont DEC--in support of the DEC’s Functioning Floodplain Initiative (FFI).
Purpose:
Small stream hydro-enforced DEMs for the Lake Champlain Basin may be used for hydrologic analyses. This dataset was developed to support creation of the Topographically-Defined Floodplains for the Lake Champlain Basin, 2013-2017.

The NHDPlus HR dataset for the Lake Champlain 4-digut HU was downloaded from The National Map (https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5f1b089682cef313ed8824c7) and used to define the reach extents. NHDPlusFlowlineVAA table was joined to the NHDPlusBurnLineEvent feature using the NHDplusID field, and dissolved based on ReachCode. NHDPlus reaches that had a maximum drainage area less than 5.18 square-km were excluded, as were those that fell outside the Lake Champlain Basin in Vermont.
